Through The Lens:
A Letter to you
Welcome to the Obscura!
Calgary born, I am drawn to the obscure, the dark, abandoned spaces, emotive responses, and the human body. Art for me is therapeutic, and through my photos I process my grief, utilizing the human form to discover where it most heavily rests. My work reveals a level of reconciliation with the physical landscape of the body, through movement and distortion. Playing with light and shadow and double exposures, it is all a subtle way for me to release memories that my body holds. I am grieving, expressing, powerful and unabashed in my exploration of what it means to be a human.
My identity is greatly linked to my gender expression, my queerness, motherhood, and the land I call home. Perhaps why I deal so much in the left behind is to ensure those historically and currently left out of history books won’t be forgotten or silenced.
Before anything else, I am an artist.
I hope my art encourages those to face what is hard. I hope my art can inspire you to move, scream, dance, in your deepest moments of regret. We are all trying to survive, and I wish you find joy in the spurts of chaos.
